Lena Karen Lynch, 61, Goldsboro, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Brookdale Pines in Goldsboro.

Karen was born in Lajes Field, Azores, Aug. 30, 1954, to the late Jesse W. Lynch and Evelyn Crew Lynch.

She was a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School. Karen earned a bachelor's degree in special education from East Carolina University.

She resided in her home on Chafin Road for most of her life, and was close to many of her neighbors. Karen cherished them like they were family.

She attended church at Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, and belonged to a large and loving church family.

Her last several years were spent at Brookdale Pines as her health declined. Karen was blessed by the care of staff there, who made her final years full of joy and love.

A private graveside service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Wayne Memorial Park, followed by a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. at Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Colby Leonard officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 22, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

Karen is survived by her sister, Diane L. Tumblin and husband, Richard, of Portsmouth, Va., and her nephew, Evan Tumblin of Portsmouth, Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in Karen's memory to the charity of one's choice.

Karen's surviving family sends its deepest thanks to all those who loved and cared for Karen, including her doctors, Dr. McCaskill and Dr. Aktar.
