Delbert Kornegay Taylor Sr., 91, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at his home.

Delbert was born in Wayne County Feb. 12, 1925, to the late Jim and Nora Kornegay Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ham Taylor, May 27, 2009.

Delbert retired as an insurance adjuster with Commercial Credit, and also worked in his own business, Taylor Adjusting Services.

He proudly served his country in the medic corps of the United States Army during World War II. While serving in the Army, Delbert was stationed in Germany and England.

Delbert was a member of Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as its Sunday school superintendent for many years and on the board of directors.

He also attended Morton Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount, where he served as its Sunday school superintendent.

Delbert lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community.

He served his community many ways as a member of the board of directors of WHFL Television, as a board member of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship and as a volunteer fireman.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 22, 2016, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, followed by a service of remembrance at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Colby Leonard officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Delbert is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Smith and husband, Sammy, of Seven Springs and Mary Taylor of Goldsboro; son, Delbert K. Taylor Jr. of Greenville, Va.; grandchildren, Heather Gaster and husband, Preston, Mesha Tyrell, Michael Tyrell and Matthew Tyrell and wife, Shellie; and nine great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie T. Jackson of Goldsboro; several nieces and nephews he loved very much; and a special friend, Juanita Mansour.

In addition to his wife and parents, Delbert was preceded in death by his two brothers, Lester Taylor and Ellis Ray Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, 2803 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
