Selby Jackson Brown, 76, Goldsboro, passed away Monday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Selby was born in Wayne County Oct. 2, 1939, to the late George Franklin Brown and Emma Cannon Brown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Alford Brown, April 26, 2015.

Selby owned and operated the Ash Street Shell Station in Goldsboro for more than 28 years.

He had a wonderful sense of humor, and never took himself too seriously. He was a good friend and a great daddy, and had a generous heart.

He provided a wonderful home for his family, and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.

A service celebrating Selby's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Emmitt Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.

Selby is survived by his daughter, Donna L. Holcombe of Kenly; two grandsons, Cory Holcombe and Kendall Holcombe; and was anticipating the birth of a great-granddaughter, Addyson Grace.

He is also survived by stepsons, Dennis Jones and wife, Daphney, and Scotty Jones and wife, Brenda; stepgrandchildren, Stevie Johnson, Brandon Jones, Chris Jones and Jason Register; and stepgreat-grandchildren, McKenna Johnson and Kaylan Johnson.

He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Rhodes, Christine Stone and Penelope Geist.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Selby Franklin Brown; stepson, Thomas Jones; sisters, Dorothy Moore and Geraldine Shelton; and brothers, Eugene "Hoss" Brown and Frank Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va., 23058.
