Retired Staff Sgt. Porter Lemont Matthews Jr., 83, 258 Lee’s Country Club Road, Mount Olive, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Anthony Ezzell, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Carver Cemetery.
Born in Duplin County, he was the son of the late Porter Vine Matthews Sr. and Clara Faison Dawson. He was married to the late Louise Matthews.
Two children survive.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home chapel.
