BERRY 'SHINE' SWIFT WALKER JR.

Berry “Shine” Swift Walker Jr., 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, April 8, 2016, at 4 p.m. at Walker Family Cemetery, intersection of N.C. 111 South and Spring Bank Road in Goldsboro, with pastor Brad Mitchell officiating.

The family will receive friends afterward.

Shine was a native of Wayne County, born March 30, 1928, to the late Berry Swift Walker Sr. and Sally Barwick Walker.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Shine was very active in his community. He was an active member of New Hope Ruritan Club and a charter member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on many committees, including being a lifelong choir member, past deacon and Sunday school teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Walker; one son, Gene Walker of Goldsboro and Maryann George of Goldsboro; two daughters, Rhonda Walker Sullivan and husband, Ben, of Goldsboro and Karen Walker Yarbrough and husband, Richard, of Goldsboro and their mother, Mildred Barber Smith of Goldsboro; two stepdaughters, who were like his own, Kim Smith and husband, Dave, of Pikeville and Tammy Bass and husband, Brian, of Goldsboro; three sisters, Shirley Lawrence and husband, Merolin “Jiggs,” of Goldsboro, Faye Sutton of LaGrange and Merle Jean Hobbs of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Shine was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Walker; three brothers; and two sisters.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1086 N.C. 111 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
