Edna Edmundson Ballance of Fremont was called home on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 after a long illness. The life she lived, one of grace and Christian love, could not be diminished by the sickness that she endured.
Edna was born in Wayne County on Sept. 29, 1932 to the late Walter Leslie Edmundson and Sarah Ellen Lancaster Edmundson. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for those she cared for while working for many years as a registered nurse.
Her life was filled with humility, kindness and a love for others that she displayed every time she smiled. Edna dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord. She was a member of Fremont Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the women's auxiliary.
The Ballance family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 9, from 1-2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service celebrating Edna's life at 2 p.m. in the chapel with her grandsons, Adam Ballance and Dane Barnes, and the Rev. Powell Dew officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.
Edna is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, William A. Ballance; daughters, Sylvia Ballance of Fremont and Ellen Barnes and husband, Ray of Clemmons; son, Dr. William A. "Bill" Ballance Jr. and wife, Lisa of Greenville; daughter-in-law, Kay Sullivan Ballance of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Whitney Ballance of W. Hartford, Conn., Alison Ballance of Charlotte, Will Ballance of Greenville, Dane Barnes of Raleigh, Scott Barnes of Raleigh, Adam Ballance of Raleigh and Brandon Ballance and wife, Kathryn of Durham; and special nieces, Joan L. Hinnant of Goldsboro and Eula L. Gray of LaGrange.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Earl Ballance, and sister, Marie E. Lancaster.
