DERWOOD G. STAFFORD

Derwood Glen Stafford, 86, New Bern, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Goldsboro Aug. 22, 1929, and graduated from Goldsboro High School before joining the United States Navy at age 17. He served in the United States Navy, and retired after 22 years of service.

After working at the White House for five years, he was an executive assistant for the Council of Economic Policies.

He worked at the Department of Justice, and retired after 22 years of service at age 65.

He was a member of St. Paul Parish and the American Legion.

After his retirement, he loved to travel and play golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Martha Stafford; brothers, Arthur (Ruth), David (Frances) and William (Margaret) Stafford; and sisters, Frances McCart and Margery Morrow (Boyce).

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Stafford; sons, Kim David Stafford (Nancy) of Bakersfield, Calif., and Robert Carlton Stafford (Suzanne) of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Kirsten Jo Banks (Joshua) of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Christopher Stafford and Noe Stafford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at Cotten Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church Building Fund.
