EDNA PARKER HOOD

March 21, 1920-Sept. 4, 2015

Friday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2015, Edna Parker Hood, 95, Grantham community, moved to her heavenly home while surrounded by her family.

Edna was a godly woman, who loved the Lord and her family, and set an example for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.

Edna was born March 21, 1920, at her grandmother's home in Sampson County to the late Rev. E. L. Parker and Pearl Parker.

She was a graduate of Grantham High School and Pineland College.

Edna had worked for Drs. Warrick, Clark and Hester for 27 years.

Her warmth, generosity and kind spirit were well known and cherished by those she encountered throughout her life.

She was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church for 75 years, and taught Sunday School classes to all age groups for more than 50 years.

She is survived by three sons, Philip (Fran), Ted (Doris) and Mark (Joyce) Hood of the Grantham community; one daughter, Elaine (Dennis) Hartley of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Horace; a grandson, Kent Hood; a great-grandson, Matthew Hood; one sister; and five brothers.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church of your choice or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Selah Christian Church, of which she was a member, followed by a service celebrating Edna's life at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Patrick Muston and the Rev. Dr. Billy Webb officiating. Interment will conclude the services at Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at her home at 115 Weaver Road, Goldsboro.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care it provided for Edna during her final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
