VIRGIL L. TYNER

Mr. Virgil Lee Tyner, 85, resident of Mount Olive, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 12, while at Genesis Care Center.

He was a native of Sampson County, was the son of the late John Henry and Hattie Mae Russell Tyner, was a retired meat cutter with Acme Food Markets and, in later years, he and his wife operated V and S Grocery Store in Mount Olive.

He was a member of Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Jordan Tyner; three daughters, Connie Keeney of Maryland, Elizabeth "Libby" Hopkins and husband, David, of South Carolina, and Sandra Howard and husband, Donnie, of Mount Olive; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Jeschoneck of Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild; and his siblings, John Tyner, Alex Tyner, Beryl Tyner, Lelia Lewis, Nancy Fowler, Bertha Weeks and Lois Easterling.

Funeral services for Mr. Tyner will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Tyndall Funeral Home, with visitation to follow.

Burial will be Friday, May 15, at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
