ALICE SEEBERT GODWIN

Alice Seebert Godwin, Mount Olive resident, passed away Sunday morning, May 10, Mother's Day, at home.

Born Dec. 25, 1921, Christmas Day, in Lexington, Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Seebert, and would be their only child.

She was a graduate of Longwood University, and in 1946, she married James Matthew Godwin Jr. They moved to Bluefield, W. Va., in 1948, where they resided until 2010, when they relocated to Mount Olive, N.C.

Mrs. Godwin served as the countywide lunchroom supervisor for the Tazewell School System.

She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield, and more recently, Mount Olive Presbyterian Church.

She was, for many years, a volunteer with Bluefield Union Mission.

She is survived by her husband of more than 68 years, James Matthew Godwin Jr. of the home; their three children, Ann G. and Jim Gwathmey of Norfolk, Va., Alice G. and the Rev. Steven Wicks of Mount Olive and Jimbo and Sue Godwin of Bluefield, W. Va.; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She also had one deceased granddaughter.

The family wishes to acknowledge three special caregivers, Glenda McCord, Rhonda Smith and Christine Davis, for their love, care and support.

A memorial service will be held at Mount Olive Presbyterian Church Friday, May 15, at 5 p.m., with the Rev. Steven Wicks officiating, and with a time of visitation and fellowship following.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 16, at 3 p.m. at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield.

In lieu of flowers, it is the wish of the family for memorial gifts to be made to Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, 105 N. Breazeale Ave., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, or Bible in the Schools, P.O. Box 543, Bluefield, W. Va., 24701.
