SHIRLEAN CRISP

Virginia Shirlean Crisp of Goldsboro, N.C., passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015, while at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Shirlean was born Jan. 2, 1941, to the late Melvin DeWitt Crisp and Nina Long Crisp.

She was a 1959 graduate of Goldsboro High School and attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo.

Shirlean was also a retired N.C. State employee.

She received much joy encouraging people and sharing her many experiences with them.

She had a thirst for knowledge and was extremely well-read. Shirlean spent a number of years involved in Christian missionary work in Israel, Germany, Costa Rica and Africa.

She had a great love for Israel and the Jewish people and spent much time reading and studying Jewish history.

In 1983, she composed and published a book of poetry entitled, "A Song in the Night."

Shirlean is survived by sisters, Elizabeth Francisco and husband, Cecil, and Mary Hood and husband, Rex; brother, David Crisp and wife, Glendora; nieces and nephews, Teresa Crisp Hood, William Crisp, Michael Crisp, Jeffrey Crisp, Brian Crisp, Kimberly C. Shelton, Joseph Francisco, Dava C. Rose, David Crisp Jr., Alice Crisp and Ryan B. Hood; and sisters-in-law, Mollie Crisp and Beverly Crisp.

She was preceded in death by brothers, William DeWitt Crisp and Kenneth M. Crisp.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Friends are also welcomed to visit the family at the home of Rex and Mary C. Hood, 1508 Rose Street, Goldsboro, N.C.

The Rev. Joe Francisco will be officiating along with the Rev. Bill Rose and the Rev. Tony McLamb.

Special comments will be made by Jane Woodard.

Flowers are welcome, however, memorial contributions may be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, 30 N. LaSalle St., Suite 4300, Chicago, Ill., 60602-2584 or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family would like to express sincere and heartfelt thanks to friends for every prayer and expression of love and concern and extend a special thanks to Kitty Askins for their tender love and care.
