ROBERT LEE SMITH JR.

Sept. 30, 1940-Feb. 18, 2015

Robert Lee Smith Jr. passed peacefully into that far better life with his Lord and savior and with those beloved family who went on before. His courage during his fight with his health was typical of his strength of character, reflecting his loyalty and dedication to, and deep love for, his family and his zest and love of life.

Robert Lee was born in Wayne County Sept. 30, 1940, to Edna Butts Smith of Goldsboro and the late Robert Lee Smith Sr.

He was retired from Southco Distributing Co. after 30-plus years of service.

Robert Lee's passion was golf, and, if it was a beautiful day, you could find him on a golf course. He also enjoyed going to watch family and friends play softball.

Robert Lee was a man known for his unconditional love for people shown by the abundance of hugs and kisses he gave. Anyone who met him was warmed by his love and affection. He was a gracious, kind and generous man, who cared about the souls of everyone.

He also had a rich love for the Lord. Robert Lee was a member of United In Christ Church.

A service celebrating Robert Lee's life will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at United in Christ Church, with his brother, the Rev. Reynolds Smith, and the Rev. Ira Williford officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Park.
