John Holmes Aycock, 85, Goldsboro, passed away Sunday morning at Kitty Askins Hopice Center surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Wayne County on Sept. 28, 1929, to the late Leslie Emerson and Lucille Edwards.

He was married to the late Nancy Underwood Aycock.

John was retired from the G.E. plant in Goldsboro after 37 years of service.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he could be found shooting a game of pool or playing a hand of poker with his friends in his spare time.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at 9 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Fred Crank officiating.

John is survived by his son Johnny Aycock and wife, Julie, of Rosewood; grandsons, Drake Aycock and Justin Carter, his girlfriend, Kelsie, and Branson; sister, Doris A. Gray of Newport; brother, Bill Aycock and wife, Jean, of Goldsboro; a niece, Carolyn Aycock; a special friend and caregiver, Jill Smith; and a special pet companion, Pee Wee; as well as his extended family and friends.

Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834, or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday immediately following the graveside service and at other times at his son's home, 109 Rhonda Drive, Goldsboro.
