CHARLES LYNWOOD MERCER

June 25, 1949-Dec. 10, 2014

Charles Lynwood Mercer, 65, Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in Lenoir County June 25, 1949, to the late James Monroe Mercer and Sarah Davis Bass. He was married to the late Teresa Gurley Mercer.

Charles worked as a certified public accountant with Norborne G. Smith Jr. for many years.

Following his retirement, Charles enjoyed going to his beach home, where you could often find him spending many hours on his front porch looking over the ocean, which was on one side of the porch, and the sound on the other side.

Although Charles leaves a vacant place in our hearts, we know he truly earned his special place in heaven. Charles will always be remembered as a loyal man of faith, love and respect for everyone who touched his life. The best of Charles will live on in each of us.

A service celebrating Charles' life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.

Charles is survived by his sons, Brad Mercer and wife, Lisa, of Grimesland and Matt Hill of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Hayley Mercer, Parker Mercer, Ashley Dawson, Tessa Dawson and Tyler Dawson; and four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Jean Bishop, and brothers, Lloyd Mercer and Bobby Mercer.

In addition to his wife and parents, Charles was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Tammy Hill.

We would like to give a very special thank you to his special friend and caregiver, Pat Rouse, for the love and care she provided for Charles during his decline in health. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or Cures for the Colors, SMOC, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
