Hayward James Godwin, 84, Goldsboro, passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Hayward was born in Taylor County, W. Va., Sept. 24, 1930, to the late James Ulysses and Anna Shaffer Godwin.

Hayward proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired as a technical sergeant. Hayward served during the time of both the Vietnam War and the Korean War.

Hayward later went back, and worked at, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, where he retired from civil service.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Goldsboro, as well as the Moose Lodge.

Hayward was known for his talents with woodworking, and was a master woodcrafter.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by military honors on the front lawn.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Boyette Godwin; daughter, Lorri Godwin Streiff and husband, David Jr., of Granbury, Texas; stepchildren, David Scott Boyette and wife, Athena, of LaGrange, Michael John Boyette and wife, Tammy, of Pikeville and Melissa Boyette Godwin and husband, Neil, of Princeton; grandchildren, Adrick Owen Streiff, United States Army, Nickolas Alexander Streiff, United States Army, Gregory James Godwin, Marriah Lynn Godwin, Lindsey Doty, Johnathan Matthew Boyette, United States Navy, Christopher Michael Boyette, Bryan David Boyette, Jaz'lyn Lynna Moore-Parrish, Jeffrey Scott Boyette Johnson, Lacey Jeanne Godwin and Augustus Dean Godwin; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Streiff, Trinity Streiff, Gavin Streiff and Liam Streiff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Allen Godwin.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Alzheimer's of North Carolina Foundation, P.O. Box 10608, Goldsboro, N.C., 27532.
