ALONZO 'ED' LITTLE

Alonzo Edward "Ed" Little, 92, died Saturday at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Alonzo Edward Little and Ruby Dorrity Little Griffin.

Ed was the oldest living male member of First Baptist Church, a member of Goldsboro Elks Lodge and the Golden "K" Kiwanis.

Shortly after graduating from Goldsboro High School in 1939, he joined the United States Army Air Corps, which became the United States Air Force. Ed was very proud of his 49 missions as the pilot of a B-26 bomber during World War II. He retired from the United States Air Force Reserves as a lieutenant colonel.

Following the war, Ed attended and graduated from North Carolina State University.

He was a surveyor for more than 50 years, and was a past president of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors.

A service to celebrate Ed's life will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Harry officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Willowdale Cemetery.

Family members will greet friends in the church fellowship hall from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Ed is survived by his wife, Doris Goodson Little; two daughters, Georgia Little Mast and husband, Thomas Clark Mast, of Reston, Va., and Joan Little Hackmann and husband, Paul Augustus Hackmann, of Goldsboro; a brother, John Little and wife, Martha of Wendell; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Mast of Williamsburg, Va., Ali Trivette and husband, Drew, of Bristol, Va., Henry Mast of Kykotsmovi Village, Ariz., Kim Dowd and husband, Mike, of Asheville, Robin Leib and husband, Shaun, of Goldsboro, Brooke King and husband, Parker, of Goldsboro and Ted Hackmann and wife, Mary Katherine, of Raleigh; and two great-grandchildren, Porter Dowd and Lily Dowd.
