James Walter Odom, 93, a good and faithful servant, entered heaven's gates Sunday night, Oct. 12, 2014.

A resident of Fuquay-Varina and native of Mount Olive, he was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and a retired mechanic with E.I. duPont Co. with 29 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter, Ellen O. Peters and husband, Larry; his son, Douglas Odom all of Fuquay; a granddaughter, Hayley P. Warren and husband, Eric; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Claire Warren; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Cleo Grady and Mattie Grady both of the Mount Olive area.

Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geneva Grady Odom; his parents, Walter R. and Fannie Huffman Odom; two sisters, Tempie Odom and Hazel Odom Brown (who passed away the same day as he); and two brothers, Norwood C. Odom and Ray Odom.

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at Hilltop Free Will Baptist Church, 10212 Fayetteville Road, Fuquay-Varina.

Visitation will be at the church during the hour before the service.

Graveside committal and interment will be Friday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 U.S. 117 South, Goldsboro. Officiating minister will be the Rev. Jeff Jones.

Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to Hilltop Free Will Baptist Church, 10212 Fayetteville Road, Fuquay-Varina, N.C., 27526.
