WILLIAM RAY HILL

June 4, 1940-Sept. 26, 2014

PIKEVILLE - William Ray Hill, 74, was called home early Friday morning to the loving arms of Jesus Christ his Lord while surrounded by his family.

Ray was born in Wayne County on June 4, 1940, to the late Edmund Ham Hill and Cassie Woodard Hill.

In 1967, he established Hill's Tire and Auto Service in Goldsboro and he continued to own and operate the business with his family until his death.

Ray lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Exchange Club of Goldsboro and had served on the boards of the Partnership for Children and Crime Stoppers.

Ray was an unusually fine man. He was adored by his family, for whom he was a source of joy and strength, but also by countless others, from old friends to new acquaintances, all of whom were struck by his quiet generosity, his kind and unassuming intelligence and his quick wit and sense of humor. He cherished his wife and was a role model to his children.

Ray was a member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and collecting antique cars. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed.

A service celebrating Ray's life will be held at 7 p.m. today at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. John Howard and the Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will greet friends Sunday following the service at the church and at other times at his home.

Ray is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Gladys Ila Odom Hill; daughters, Janet Hill Mitchell and husband Lee, and Phyllis H. Johnson and husband Greg; son, Johnny Hill and wife Jamie; grandchildren, Heather Evans, Ashley Mozingo, Gregory Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Jasper Hill, Cody Mitchell and Chloe Sutton Cox; and great-grandchildren, Weston Evans, Kensley Evans, Paislee Mozingo and Keely Mozingo. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Martin, Catherine Raynor and Gwen Anderson; and brothers, H.J. Hill and Keith Hill.

Flowers are welcome or the family suggests memorials be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or to the Kingdom Builders at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

Special thanks to his wonderful neighbors, friends, and the nurses and doctors who cared for him and his family in so many kind and thoughtful ways through the past few months and during this time of loss.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
