GLADYS M. PHILLIPS

Gladys Maples Phillips, 79, died Thursday night at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Born in Moore County, she was the daughter of the late James C. Maples and Myrtle Hunt Maples and was preceded in death by her brothers, James, John, Robert, Todd and David Maples.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member of the Sanctuary Choir and the Virginia Henderson Sunday School Class. She served on many committees in the church and worked with the children and the youths.

A service to celebrate her life will be held today at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott Thrailkill officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband, Glenn F. Phillips Sr.; two sons, Dr. Glenn F. Phillips Jr. and wife, Allyson, of Goldsboro, Jerry C. Phillips and wife, Donna, of Goldsboro; her grandsons, Josh Phillips and fiancée, Renee Mooring, of Goldsboro, Rob Phillips and fiancée, Nickie Falcone, of Goldsboro, Zach Phillips and wife, Lauren, of Fort Campbell, Ky.; her sister, Francis Middleton and husband, Jimmy, of Greensboro; special adopted sister, Judy Mabe and husband, James, of Carthage, N.C.; special cousin, Barbara Willard of Pine Bluff, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a neighbor to everyone, not just those who lived nearby and never failed to say "I Love You" to everybody.
