HELEN CICCHETTO FISCHEL
Feb. 13, 1944-Sept. 24, 2014
Helen Cicchetto Fischel, 70, Fremont, passed away Sept. 24, 2014, at Duke University Medical Center after a long illness.
A service celebrating Helen's life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fischel was born Feb. 13, 1944, in Elizabeth, N.J., the daughter of the late Theresa Cicchetto, who passed away in 2013, and John Cicchetto, who died in 1984.
She grew up in Roselle Park, N.J.
Mrs. Fischel was a 1962 graduate of Roselle Park High School, and earned an associate degree from Mira Mesa College in San Diego, Calif.
She worked for Motorola in San Diego and Schuamburg, Ill., for 22 years as the administrative assistant for the company's director of human resources.
She retired from Motorola in 2002, waited three years, then came to work at the Goldsboro News-Argus, where she worked for nine years.
Helen met the love of her life, her husband, Martin "Marty" Fischel, in Elizabeth, N.J. They were married in San Diego, Calif., in 1975.
Fate brought the soul mates together, and their love lasted for 39 wonderful and joyful years.
Helen and Marty just enjoyed being together, whether it was for a walk in the mall or a stroll in the park. They also enjoyed golf -- Marty is an avid golfer and fisherman.
Helen, in addition to the hobbies she and Marty shared, also was an avid quilter, creating keepsakes for family and friends.
Helen and Marty had a marriage filled with love, laughter, hardships and joy.
"We are best friends," Helen would say.
Helen and Marty were also extremely proud of their children, who are not only successful, but who were always there for their mother and father when they needed them the most.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Martin Fischel and his wife, Dana, and their daughter, Victoria, all of Dallas, Texas; and a daughter, Antoinette "Toni" Moskal and her children, Amy and Atlan Hartson and Corey Bradley, all of Mira Mesa, Fla.; a great-grandson, Jonathan Bradley; two brothers, Patrick Cicchetto of Glen Alan, Va., and Terry Cicchetto of Delaware; and two sisters, Mary Ann Skorenki of Roselle Park, N.J., and Marlene Morgan of Richmond, Va.
Also left behind are many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles throughout the upper East Coast.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fischel was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Cicchetto and Robert Cicchetto.
In addition to caring for their human children, Helen and Marty were avid animal lovers, and opened their homes to many strays over the years.
Close to their hearts were their fur-children, Cassie, Rhoda, Maggie May and Cookie -- who brought many smiles to their lives over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Leukemia Foundation, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 310, White Plains, N.Y., 10605.
