BLACKIE KINCAID

Blackie Kincaid passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sept. 25, 2014.
He is now at home in eternal heaven with the many loved ones who have passed before him.
He was born Aug. 11, 1930, to the late Rondal and Beatrice Kincaid of Ansted, W. Va.
His earthly legacy was his family, whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jane Campbell Kincaid; his son, Jimmy and daughter-in-law, Elayne, and granddaughters, Katy, Jerrica and Sohmer; his son, Jeff and daughter-in-law, Tammy and grandchildren, Ashley, Jeffery, Allison and Kaitlyn; and daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, David, and grandsons, Matthew and Paul.
His life was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Helen Nuckols and her husband, Bill; sister, Patsy Ohlinger; brother, Mike Kincaid and his wife, Jaunita; and his sister-in-law, Ramona Kincaid.
Ansted was always home, and that is where he lived until attending the University of South Carolina in 1948. He initially played football, basketball and baseball, and ran track.
After his junior year, he and his brother, Billy Gene, and two teammates joined the Coast Guard.
He then returned to the University of South Carolina, and played football his senior year.
Upon graduation from the University of South Carolina, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams with the 29th overall pick of the NFL draft. He was traded to the Washington Redskins, and later played in the CFL for the Hamilton Tiger Cats, and then the Montreal Alouettes.
Football was his life for many years, and he remained a loyal fan to his beloved Gamecocks throughout his life.
His journey took him back to the University of South Carolina where he attained his master's degree, and worked for the university, overseeing housing and later the student union.
The transportation business eventually took him to Charlotte, N.C., and then Goldsboro.
Blackie had been a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church since 1965. He was a deacon, a teacher, a dedicated member of the choir, and also served on various committees throughout the years.
To say he was a sports enthusiast is putting it mildly. He coached and attended every sport imaginable while his children and grandchildren were playing.
He loved high school football, and refereed for many years.
Softball was one of his favorite sports to play, and he remained a top tier player until long after his contemporaries had hung up their cleats.
As busy as he was, he always managed a round or two of golf on weekends, and after he retired, during the week also. Everyone would remember his keen ability on the golf course as he holds a personal record of 13 holes-in-one.
Blackie would say there is not a secret to having a full and rich life. He had a devoted lifelong wife and best friend in Janie, a family that adored him, a church he loved and a passion for life and living each day to the fullest.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept., 28, 2014, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, following with a service in the church sanctuary at 4 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Robert Fulkerson officiating. Entombment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
