Mr. Johnnie Newsome Jr., 77, formerly of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, N.C., Aug. 23, 2914.
He retired from the United States Navy with 30 years of honorable service.
Visitation will be at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, Goldsboro, N.C., Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, beginning at 3 p.m. and with family from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. James Disciples of Christ Church, 514 Memorial Church Road, Fremont, N.C., with apostle Edwin Newsome officiating. Burial will follow at Turner Swamp Cemetery, Eureka, N.C., with full military honors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Newsome Sr. and Lila Bell Shadding Newsome.
He is survived by three sisters, Thelma N. Rogers of Fremont, N.C., Ethel N. Barnes of Goldsboro, N.C., and Cassandra Newsome of Bridgeton, N.C.; an aunt, Emma Fennell, husband, Ray, of Goldsboro, N.C.; two uncles, Frederick Shadding, wife, Katherine, of Goldsboro, N.C., and Franklin Shadding of Philadelphia, Pa.; and innumerable nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or Alzheimer's North Carolina, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, N.C., 27609.
Hamilton Funeral Chapel is serving the family.
