Bessie Lorraine Floyd Miles, 88, Goldsboro, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at the home of her granddaughter in Wetumpka, Ala.

Bessie was born in Florence County, S.C., July 9, 1926, to the late Henry Myers Floyd and Bertha Hewett Floyd.

She was married to the late Rev. Edward Willis Miles, who preceded her in death March 6, 2007. She faithfully served as the wife of a Free Will Baptist minister, and they ministered together for 41 years.

Bessie had also worked for many years as a teacher's assistant with Wayne County Public Schools.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating Bessie's life at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating.

Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Bessie is survived by her daughters, Windy M. Whitman and husband, Darby, of Clayton and Gail M. Trump and husband, Larry, of Goldsboro; son, Mitch Miles and wife, Judy, of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers, Edward Floyd of Reidsville and Mendle Floyd of Olanta, S.C., and sisters, Gertrude Smith of York, Pa., and Mamie Lou Floyd of Lake City, S.C.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Allen, Helen Wilson and Myrtle Horne, and brothers, Myers Floyd and Gordon Floyd.

Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the Edward W. Miles and Bessie F. Miles Endowment for ministerial scholarships at Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
