Charles Elman Hales, 83, Goldsboro, went to be with his Lord Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in Wayne County July 19, 1931, to the late Charles Wilbert Hales and Mabel Rich Hales.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sally Rowe Hales.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

He retired from Carolina Power and Light Co. after 35 years of service.

Charles was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he served in many
capacities.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sandy Schaller officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Charles is survived by his sons, Charles S. Hales of Goldsboro, Richard E. Hales and wife, Tracy, of Wake Forest and Edward T. Hales and wife, Kris, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Leigh, Lauren, Tyler, Trent and Andrew; and his sisters, Evelyn Clay of Enfield and Peggy Carlisle and husband, George, of Princeton.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given to Salem United Methodist Church, 2706 Salem Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care it provided for Charles during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Also we would like to thank Dr. I-Wen Chang at Southeastern Medical Oncology Center, who cared for Charles during this past year.
