MOSLEY C. 'STONEY' WATERS JR.

Dec. 7, 1947-Aug. 5, 2014

Mosley Carr Waters Jr., Mount Olive, a native of Calypso, and former Wilmington resident, passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 5, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mr. Waters, known as Stoney to most, was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hearing the dogs run, watching a good tractor pull and John Force.

He always said the most cherished moments were doing projects with the Waters boys -- Pop, Jim, Rick and Derick.

Stoney and wife, Laura Ann, spent most of their married lives in Wilmington, but they always called Calypso home. When it was time to think about retirement years (and taking care of parents), Calypso was where their hearts led them.

They were so excited when they purchased their home in Mount Olive, only to find out one month later that Stoney had colon cancer, which he fought for six years. He said he knew the bus was coming, but he was not going to flag it down. Until God called him home, he gave cancer a real heroic fight.

Though Stoney and Laura Ann had no children, they were truly blessed to have lots of children they called their own.

Always considered as theirs were the North Duplin Rebels, and they would drive any distance to support the team. Go Rebels! Once a Rebel, always a Rebel! In so many ways, the Rebels have shown their love for Mr. Stoney (or Uncle Stoney), and each act of loving kindness made him feel humble.

Stoney's life will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 9, at North Duplin High School gymnasium, with Dr. Greg Day and the Rev. Paul Rose presiding at the service, after which visitation will immediately follow.

Friends and family are also welcome to call at the residence.

Stoney is survived by his wife of 45 years, Laura Ann Sutton Waters of the home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Cathy Waters of Fuquay-Varina and Ricky and Terry Waters of Calypso; a sister-in-law and husband, Gail S. and Sid Sandlin of Beulaville; a very special nephew, Derick Waters; a nephew, Ethan Sandlin; four nieces, Karri Jo Jernigan and husband, Troy, Tiffanie Hawley and husband, Fred, Christina Waters and Kirby Horne and husband, Trevor; great-nieces and nephews, LizieGrace, Troy Edwin and Eli Jernigan, Nathan Hawley, and Mason Horne; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mosley and Toy Waters; and Ogden, Dusty and Winnie, who were like his children.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Calypso Baptist Church, P.O. Box 248, Calypso, N.C., 28325, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

A Tyndall service of Mount Olive.
