TEMPIE BEST DAVIS

Tempie Barwick Best Davis, 82, longtime resident of Brock's Chapel section near Mount Olive, passed away Wednesday evening, May 28, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

She kept herself busy as being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and good neighbor, while fulfilling her role as a homemaker and farmer's wife, operating an upholstery shop and assisting at several local florist shops.

She was a member of Bear Marsh Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, and was active in the Women's Missionary Union.

Survivors include Preston Davis of Davis; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie B. and Jay Henderson of Mount Olive; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Pam Best, Lynn Best and Mack and Brenda Best all of Mount Olive; a sister, Nettie B. Hubert of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Michael Best, Wade Best, Windy Best Ortega, Lisa Deaver, Teresa Waters and Jeremy Henderson all of Mount Olive, Rebecca Dean of Southport and Kelly Best Minnich of Liberty; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Those preceding her in death include her first husband and her children's father, Kenneth I. Best; a grandson, Chris Henderson; a great-grandson; her parents, Robert S. and Kathlou Pennington Barwick; a brother, Robert Swinson Barwick; and two sisters, Hepsia Long and Hilda Jackson.

Graveside funeral rites will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Kenneth Best Family Cemetery (across the highway from the Best homeplace), with pastor Robert Ellis officiating.

The family will greet friends at the cemetery at the conclusion of the service, and at other times, friends and relatives may call at the respective homes of the Best children.
