Mrs. Ruby Hildreth Avery, 93, Hamlet, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Universal Healthcare in Fuquay-Varina.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Forestville United Methodist Church, 5238 Vintage Road in Lilesville, with the Rev. Chris Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Ruby was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Anson County, N.C., daughter of the late Elijah Austin and Bessie Grooms Hildreth.
She was retired housekeeping supervisor at O'Berry Hospital in Goldsboro, and was a member of Forestville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Nancy (Robert) Barwick of Raleigh, Kathy (Mike) Hinsley of Hamlet and Shaula (Randy) Sharp of Cary; her son-in-law, Kent Hicks of Hamlet; her daughter-in-law, Dianne Garris Morgan of New London; her grandchildren, Matthew Barwick of Raleigh, Casey (Davis) Dunlap of Willow Spring, Jamie Skinner of Virginia Beach, Va., Wendy (Kelly) Thompson of New London, Cindy (Sam) Clayton of Richfield, Kent Hicks Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Joe (Samantha) Hicks of Rockingham and Nicole Pennington of Kernersville; and her great-grandchildren, Breanna, Madilynn, Grace, Jacob, Grayson, Emerson and Calder.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Avery; her children, Harold "Gene" Garris and Martha Hicks; and her sisters and brother, Pauline Moss, Christine Tucker, Susie Smoak and Jack Hildreth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forestville United Methodist Church, c/o Deborah Moss, 133 Forest Road, Lilesville, N.C., 28091.
