CLEO TAYLOR CARTER

April 3, 1927-May 22, 2014

Mrs. Cleo Taylor Carter, 87, Goldsboro, died Thursday afternoon, May 22, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with her family at her side.

Born April 3, 1927, in Greene County, Cleo was the daughter of the late Bennie and Louise Radford Taylor, and was the widow of the late, Alton Carter.

She was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in her later years, but also had fond memories and a great inheritance from Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Greene County, where she was a member in her early years.

She worked as a seamstress in Wayne County until retirement. After retirement, she worked as a volunteer at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 13 years.

Cleo's surviving family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Wilbert Mitchell; granddaughters, Kristal Jones and husband, Tony, and Temple Herring and husband, Doug; great-grandchildren, Carter Jones, Cathryn Jones, Mitchell Langston and Megan Langston; stepgreat-grandchildren, Payton Herring and Bryce Herring; extended family, Margaret Lawhorn and Jennifer Lawhorn; and a brother, Ed Taylor.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lamont, Rex and Wilton.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Snow Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Reynolds Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill. At other times, the family will be at Mrs. Carter's residence.
