MARY POPE

Mary "Stu" Pope, 82, Morehead City, died Monday, April 28, 2014, at Carteret General Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Brooks Funeral Home, with Dr. Dennis Draper officiating.

Mrs. Pope was born in Wilmington Jan. 11, 1932, to Guy V. and Ida Benson McKee.

She was very active in her community, wherever she lived.

Mrs. Pope always found time to volunteer, even while taking care of her family. She served on many charities, including Meals on Wheels, Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and The Associated Charity.

Mrs. Pope was active in the Episcopal church, and was president and served on the altar guild for many years.

She and her husband were supporters of the North Carolina Aquarium.

She is survived by her husband, Emmett "Buddy" J. Pope Jr.; daughters, Mary L. Wicker and husband, Wayne, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Elizabeth "Beth" L. Fryar and husband, Steve, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; son, Robert B. Langston Jr. and wife, Vera, of Little River, S.C.; stepdaughters, Mary Louise Pope and husband, Patrick Kennedy, of Clayton and Nealy Lambert and husband, Dr. James Lambert, of Mount Olive; stepson, Judson Pope and wife, Kim, of Goldsboro; brother, Guy V. McKee Jr. of Mount Olive; nieces, Kelly Seymour and husband, Buddy, and Camille Emmer and husband, Mark; nephew, Mac McKee; grandchildren, Andrew S. Neeves, Craig Fryar, Matthew Fryar and Wilson Wicker; and stepgrandchilden, Gray Sloan and wife, Jessica, Abbey Pope and Margaux Pope.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Robert B. Langston Sr.

The family will receive friends at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Brooks Funeral Home and at the Pope residence after the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina, P.O. Box 1514, Morehead City, N.C., 28557.
