MURRAY C. CASHWELL

Murray Clayton Cashwell, 83, longtime Mount Olive resident, died Wednesday morning, April 9, at Quinn Hospice Center in Kenansville.

Remembrance services will be held Saturday, April 12, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, corner of East James and North Church streets in Mount Olive, officiated by the Rev. Russ Nanney, Dr. H. Dennis Draper Jr. and the Rev. Tyler Daniels, followed by visitation.

Friends and relatives may also call at the residence, Old Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive.

Mr. Cashwell, son of Raymond Worth Cashwell and Ruby Rich Cashwell, was born at Garland and spent his early childhood there until the family relocated to Calypso.

He had been employed by Calypso Plywood Co., and later the Boling Co., where he was a supervisor in the sanding department.

For a short time, he was an insurance agent, and in his retirement, he assisted at Walnut Creek Country Club.

An avid golfer, he was a member of Southern Wayne Country Club, and had the distinction of being its second member.

A former member of Mount Olive Jaycees, he was a member of First United Methodist Church, and until several years back, had been involved in the church's Peanut Crew.

Surviving him are his wife of 60 years, Doris Batchelor Cashwell; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly C. and Earl Edgerton of Wilmington; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Beverly Summerlin Cashwell of Mount Olive; three grandchildren, Mercer Sneed of Wilmington and Denise Cashwell and Clayton Tyler Cashwell of Mount Olive; a great-grandson, Kannon Sneed; a brother, Richard Cashwell of Kenansville; and two sisters, Elizabeth C. Clarke and Shirley C. Wells of Calypso.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, J.R. Cashwell and Willie Clifton "W.C." Cashwell, and a young sister, Mary Lilly Cashwell.
