Agnes Grant Corbitt, 84, Pikeville, passed away Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Agnes was born in Greene County, N.C., Oct. 26, 1929, to the late Walter Grant and Ethel West Hill.

She was a longtime member of Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church. She was devoted to her church, having served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary for more than 40 years, Sunday school teacher, member of the church budget committee and served as a Free Will Baptist Western District Woman's Auxiliary Conference Officer.

She was the recipient of the Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church Lifetime Membership Award and The Free Will Baptist Lifetime Achievement Award for the Western District Women's Auxiliary.

Agnes served as the church chairman for Mount Olive College Bridge Builder's, and was recognized for her dedication to the Nahunta community by the Nahunta Extension Homemakers Club.

She was also the recipient of Wayne County's Outstanding Woman in Agriculture Award.

Agnes was a faithful member and officer of Nahunta Extension Homemakers Service, and will be remembered for her support of Mount Olive College, the Free Will Baptist Children's Home and the North Carolina Farm Bureau.

Agnes loved her family, vegetable garden and her flower garden.

She was loved by all who knew her. Agnes loved life and the life she had with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful cook and how she enjoyed preparing food for others. God had blessed her with all his love. She will live forever in all our hearts.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Massengill and Gregory Peele officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Pikeville Cemetery.

Agnes is survived by her husband of 67 years, Russell Corbitt; sons, Charles Corbitt and wife, Kimberly, and Ken Corbitt and wife, Brenda; sister, Grace Hill Parrott of Kinston; and a brother, Robert Grant and wife, Carrie, of Snow Hill.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Denton and husband, Wayne, Michael Corbitt, Cheyenne Corbitt, Russ Corbitt and wife, April, and Paul Corbitt and wife, Alison, and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Hill; sisters, Dori Jean Hill and Hazel Harrison; and brother, Steve Hill.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1283 Union Grove Church Road, Fremont, N.C., 27830.

The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.
