David Earl Peacock Sr., 72, passed peacefully Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
A service celebrating David's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Adam Seate and the Rev. David Harvin officiating.
The family will greet friends Saturday following the service in the fellowship hall, and other times at the residence.
Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
David was born in Pitt County, N.C., Sept. 28, 1941, to the late Betty Cannon Peacock and Tryphon D. Peacock.
As a young child, his family moved to Goldsboro, where he graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1960.
While at Goldsboro High School, he met and fell in love with his wife, Emily Louise Chalk, class of 1959. They married in Dillon, S.C., April 21, 1961, three days prior to his deployment to the Philippines, while serving in the United States Air Force.
David and Emmy Lou made their loving home in Goldsboro, and raised their four children.
Being a lifetime supporter of Goldsboro High School athletics, David touched the lives of many youths with his unconditional love and support.
David was a devoted member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and the music department. He served on many committees, as a UMYF counselor, choir member and cooked numerous meals, while providing love and laughter to any and all along the way.
David was an incredible father and grandfather to Emily Peacock-Nilsen and husband, Roy, and their daughters, Berit and Ingrid of Greensboro, John A. Peacock and wife, Susan, and their sons, Jonathan, Benjamin and Aedan of Goldsboro, David Earl Peacock, Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Joanie Peacock Peterson and husband, Jason, and their daughters, Marley and Sloan and son, Tucker of Cary.
David is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Peacock Sutton; adopted sister, Carolyn Wadford; and half-brother, Jim Kirby. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Richard D. Peacock, Joseph I. Peacock and Bobby G. Peacock, and his sister, Bettie Peacock Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
