JAMES RODNEY HOLLOWELL

March 4, 1939-April 1, 2014

James Rodney Hollowell, 75, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Rodney was born in Wayne County, N.C., March 4, 1939, to the late Herman Milford Hollowell and Sallie Sutton Hollowell.

He was a graduate of Rosewood High School, and served in the North Carolina National Guard.

Before retirement, Rodney was a truck driver with Comer Brothers and Cates Pickle Co.

Rodney was also a farmer in the Rosewood community on the farm where he was raised. He always enjoyed the many hours he spent on his tractor, as well as his work for Chad Adams hauling horses across the United States.

He was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Vann Spivey officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wayne Memorial Park.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Kay Sutton Hollowell; his children, Mike Hollowell of Goldsboro, Carla Massengill and husband, Mike, of Goldsboro, Amy Hartley of Goldsboro, Karen Williams and husband, Edwin, of Mount Olive, Kevin Monroe and wife, Lisa, of Charlotte and Ken Monroe and wife, Kim, of Greenville, S.C.; and 10 grandchildren, Joshua Hollowell, Veronica Hollowell, Connor Langston, Stalen Massengill, Daniel Hartley, Stacy Golub, Edwin Williams Jr., Mary Elise Monroe, Karina Jones, Cole Monroe and Meredith Monroe.

He is also survived by his aunt, Jean Langley and husband, Kenneth, of Clayton.

In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his brother, Milford Edgar Hollowell; sister, Carolyn Hollowell; and son-in-law, Larry Hartley.

With loving gratitude, we thank the doctors and nursing staff at Southeastern Medical Oncology Center for their incredible guidance, wisdom and support during Rodney's fight.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 N.C. 581 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Cure for the Colors, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Friday following the service in the church fellowship hall, and other times, at his home.
