LAGRANGE -- Kathleen Sutton Pelletier Whitley, 87, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Magnolia Cottage Care.

One of 13 children, Kathleen was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Lenoir County to the late Roland Hyman Sutton and Lille Belle Edwards Sutton. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edwin Wainwright Pelletier Sr. and Alpheus W. "Dick" Whitley Jr., and a son, Thomas Lee Pelletier.

Kathleen was a longtime member of LaGrange United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, served as a communion steward and was very involved in the upkeep of the church.

Kathleen enjoyed dancing, singing and bowling. Her life revolved around her family, and she cherished the moments when they were all together.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ray Teague and the Rev. Rufus Butner officiating. Interment will be Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Kathleen is survived by five children, Edwin W. "Eddie" Pelletier Jr. and wife, Peggy, of LaGrange, Brenda P. Arnold and husband, Jack, of Manassas, Va., Donna J. Pelletier of LaGrange, Dewey Lynn Pelletier and wife, Sandra, of LaGrange and Sherie P. Herring and husband, Frank, of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Tracy A. Thompson and husband, Charlie, Tony Arnold and wife, Candace, Gary Wain Pelletier and wife, Mary Beth, Kevin Brent Pelletier and wife, Jennie, Logan Shivar and Stephanie P. Hardy and husband, John; four siblings, Dorothy Ray of Raleigh, Lee Carr Sutton of LaGrange, Elizabeth Hardy of LaGrange and Tommy Sutton and wife, Myrtle, of LaGrange; eight great-grandchildren; along with numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Kathleen's family will receive friends following the service of remembrance, and at other times, will be at the home of Frank and Sherie Herring, 5293 Paul's Path Road, LaGrange.

Kathleen's family would like to thank the owners and staff of Magnolia Cottage Care and Classic Care for all the special love and care they showed to Mama. Thanks to 3HC and Wyse Fork EMS for their outstanding service as well. We also want to thank all the sitters for their care, love and support for Mama while she was able to stay at home.

Thanks to friends and family for their support during this difficult time.
