EDNA WATKINS MOORE

Aug. 2, 1934-Jan. 26, 2014

WILMINGTON -- Edna Watkins Moore, 79, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at her home.

Edna was born on Aug. 2, 1934, in Elizabeth City, Va., daughter of the late George Edward Watkins and Dora Mae Creel Watkins. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, William Glen Moore; son, Darrell E. Dismukes; sisters, Ida W. Glover and Nellie W. Batten; and her niece, Judith Kay Davis.

Edna retired from GE after 33 years of dedicated service. She was a longtime and faithful member of Freedom Baptist Church. She loved her church and all her close friendships she had made there. She enjoyed traveling and always found time to shop for herself or any one of her family members. She was a very generous, giving person who would not only give you her time but attention. She never met a stranger. Once you were her friend, you were her friend for life, especially if you liked to shop. She will sadly be missed. Her legacy will live on with her family and the numerous friends she made in this life.

Edna is survived by her family, Sandy Spence (Skip), Dee Langston (Don), Millie Carpenter, Martina Wissinger (Jim), Candance Brown (Matt) and Erik Glover; great-nieces and nephews, Phyllis, Michelle, Rhonda, Sherri, James Robert, George, Robert, Charles and Tina; and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Services. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., with Pastor Dodd Mays of Freedom Baptist Church officiating at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Services, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, N.C. 28403.

Graveside service will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, N.C. 28409.

Pallbearers will be Jim Carter, Keith Langston, Erik Glover, Charles Wissinger, Leon Gay and Gene Rouppasong. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Langston, Matt Brown and Skip Spence.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Lower Cape Fear Hospice for all their love, care and support of Edna and her family and to offer a special thank you to her in-home caregivers, Deborah Davis, Amanda Hoch and Jazmine Woods, who, along with the past caregivers, became not only friends, but family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, N.C. 28401 or Freedom Baptist Church, 802 N. College Road, Wilmington, N.C. 28405.

The staff of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Edna Watkins Moore.
