GEORGE A. BAKER

George Allen Baker, 81, died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late John Allen and Vennie Elizabeth Anderson Baker.

George was retired from the United States Postal Service, and was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was a member of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church and Mount Olive Masonic Lodge No. 208, and was a Shriner with the Wayne County Shrine Club.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Baker will be held Monday at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steven Wicks officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park with Masonic Rites.

Family members will remain at the cemetery to greet friends.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce "Jacki" Woodard Baker; two daughters, Michele B. and Howard Ford of Callahan, Fla., Holly B. Harris of Mount Olive; a sister, Mattie B. Grady of Grantham; and three grandchildren, Jordan Ford and his girlfriend, Rachel Gaete, Jenna Ford and Kyle Harris.
