GARLAND DEAN COOK SR.

Oct. 8, 1935-Nov. 21, 2013

Garland Dean Cooke Sr. went to be with his Lord and savior early Thursday morning, Nov. 21, 2013. Death came while he was in the familiar comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Garland was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Wayne County to the late Henry Ivey and Nora Pate Cooke.

He was a member of Rosewood First Baptist Church.

Garland was passionate about the automobile industry, and worked with many dealerships in the Goldsboro area. Garland was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life; he lived to work.

He was the kind of man, who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for his family.

He was a loving husband to Joyce Mitchell Cooke, his wife of 55 years; a loving father to son and daughter-in-law, Cale Cooke and Michelle of Rocky Mount; special granddaddy to Kasey, Cody and Erin Cooke, the apples of his eye; loving brother to Reba Brock and Larry Cooke of Goldsboro; and uncle to several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Garland Dean Cooke Jr.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Shell Davis, Dr. Mike Collier and Dr. Mike Cogdill officiating.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Rosewood First Baptist Church, 562 N.C. 581 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or United Hospice of Smithfield, 332 N. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield, N.C., 27577.

The Cooke family would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at United Hospice for the love and care it provided for Garland during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside and at other times at his home.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
