JAMES LEONARD EXUM

Mr. James Leonard Exum, 91, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Len," 508 E. Bunche Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., departed his earthly life Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at the North Carolina Veterans Nursing Home in Salisbury, N.C.

James was born in Wayne County June 19, 1922, to the late Mr. Alphonzo Exum and Mrs. Effie Coley Exum.

Also, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Carrie Gibbs Exum; two brothers, Chris and Johnny; and four sisters, Lillie, Roberta, Sarah and Viola.

Mr. Exum served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

After serving in the military, he was a longtime member at Saint Joseph Free Will Baptist Church, where brother Exum served on the deacon board.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Saint Joseph Free Will Baptist Church, 280 Claridge Nursery Road, Goldsboro, NC. Pastor Leslie Capers will officiate.

Also, a public viewing will be held Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Saint Joseph Free Will Baptist Church from 10 to 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in the Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery North, 1191 Old Grantham Road, Goldsboro, N.C.

Mr. Exum leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his four sons, Jimmy (Sharon) Exum, Larry (Cynthia) Exum, Michael (J'edith) Exum and Rickey Exum; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Flowers may be sent to McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., beginning Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
