VERNON BRYAN

Charles Vernon Bryan, 85, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Vernon was born in Wayne County to the late Charles D. and Ruth Denning Bryan of Rosewood.

He graduated from Rosewood High School in 1945.

Vernon honorably served in the United States Navy during the end of World War II.

After his military service, he returned home to Wayne County and graduated from Atlantic Christian College.

His career consisted of work at the Wayne County Board of Health, Wayne County Head Start and O'Berry Center.

Vernon was a life member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church with his family.

He was a member of the Methodist Men's Club and the Wild Life Club, and was the founding president of the Spring Lake Farm Saddle Club. His saddle club participated in many local parades at Cherry Hospital, O'Berry Center and Goldsboro.

A celebration of Vernon's life will be held at Pine Forest United Methodist Church in Rosewood at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, with the Rev. Vann Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in Willowdale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church in the hour prior to the service and other times at the home of his sister, Betty Ellis, 405 Tryon Drive, Goldsboro.

Vernon is survived by his daughter, Verna Ruth Bryan of Atlantic Beach; grandsons, Taylor Carson Timm and Connor Bryan Vaselovic; sister, Betty Bryan Ellis of Goldsboro; and special friend, Jean Becton of Goldsboro.

Vernon was preceded in death by his former wife of 34 years, Jacquelyne Vick Bryan.
