DAVID BUTLER 'BUBBA' SNIPES

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Funeral services for David Butler "Bubba" Snipes, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home chapel, with burial in Darlington Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Snipes died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013.

Born in Wayne County, N.C., he was a son of the late Marion Butler and Lela Mae Bunn Snipes.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945. He was employed by CP&L of Hartsville, S.C., where he and his family resided.

In 1980, he received a senior operator license from the NRC for the nuclear power plant in Hartsville. He retired after 33 years as a control room supervisor.

He is survived by wife, Patsy Brown Snipes of Williamsburg, Va.; sons, Steve (Karen) Snipes of Jacksonville, Fla., Tommy (Amelia) Snipes of Statesville, N.C., Richard (Sandra) Snipes of Florence, S.C., and Phil (Lynn) Snipes of Midlothian, Va.; stepdaughter, Sherrie (David) Cooke of Williamsburg, Va.; nieces, Ann Scott (Bobby) Jakubiel of Clayton, N.C., and Billie Faye (Bobby) Sasser of Goldsboro, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, April, Steve II, Stephanie, Pam, Kenny, Matt, Lisa, Rollie, Nicky, Mandy, Bryan, Caleb and Eli; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his four sons, Mary Duggan Snipes.
