PIKEVILLE -- Billy Eugene Etheridge, 79, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at Willow Creek Nursing Home.
Billy was born in Halifax County Feb. 11, 1934, to the late Claude Victor Etheridge and Willie Jordan Etheridge.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and retired as a chief petty officer after 21 years of service. Billy served in both the Vietnam and Korean wars.
He also served 15 years with the civil service division at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
A graveside service of remembrance with military honors will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Crestview Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., with the Rev. Bill Cotton officiating.
Billy is survived by his wife, Linda Williams Etheridge; daughters, Gerri Lynn Noel of Virginia Beach, Va., and Yvonne E. Smith and husband, Kenny, of Pikeville; sisters, Ezzell Etheridge Pepper and Estelle Etheridge Lynch both of Roanoke Rapids; and his grandchildren, Cole Smith and Jamie McQueen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Erick Eugene Etheridge, and brothers, James Victor Etheridge and Charles Etheridge.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at the funeral home and at other times at his home, 1252 NorAm Road, Pikeville.
