DAVID ALLEN MCFATTER

David Allen McFatter, 34, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.

David was born in Wayne County Feb. 26, 1979, to Charlotte McFatter Perry and the late J.C. McFatter.

David had a passion for serving others and protecting his community, and was an active member of Oak Island Police Department until his retirement Jan. 1, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lynn Epps officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

In addition to his mother, David is survived by his son, Haven McFatter; brother, Johnny McFatter and wife, Missy, of Goldsboro; sisters, Lorienda M. Strickland and husband, Larry, of Goldsboro and Dana M. Bailey and husband, Thomas, of Pikeville; nieces and nephews, Ariel Strickland, Cameron McFatter, Savannah Strickland, Hunter Bailey, Drake Ennis, Cole McFatter, Maverick Strickland and Kaidynce Bailey.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Arthur Wayne Perry, and grandparents Alex and Pearl McFatter and Vearl H. Gurley.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Cures for Colors, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

A trust fund will be established later this week for his son, Haven McFatter, at the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union, with Johnny McFatter serving as trustee.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. James Atkins and Dr. Kaspari of Southeastern Medical Oncology and the staff of the fourth and sixth floors at Wayne Memorial Hospital for the special care and compassion shown to David and the family during his time of illness.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
