Alton Eugene Daw, 72, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at his home.

Funeral service was at 3:30 p.m. April 1, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Frank Flowers, the Rev. Ferrell Hardison, the Rev. Jimmy Gurganus and the Rev. Marty Gurganus officiating.

Alton was born in Wayne County June 21, 1940, to the late N.J. Daw and Viola Hare Daw.

He was a true sportsman, most comfortable on the water, fishing or working in his vegetable garden.

He was a member of Belfast Volunteer Fire Department, and was an honorary member of Goldsboro Rescue Squad, where he cooked for many events.

His love for cooking prompted his opening and operating Alton's Barbecue.

Alton also served in the North Carolina National Guard.

Mr. Daw is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lou Ella Daw; his children, Clark Daw and fiancée, Feliciana Vasquez, of Goldsboro, Sherry Daw and friend, Christopher Stancil, of Dudley and Lori Daw Garcia and husband, Lupe Garcia Jr., of Goldsboro; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Rayburn and Margie Daw, Noah and Sara Daw and Delanor and Sandra Daw all of Goldsboro; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and the Rev. Jim Gurganus and Millie and the Rev. Ferrell Hardison of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Courtney Bradford of Greenville, Thomas Towson of New Hampshire and Natalia Garcia of Goldsboro; and his stepmother, Louise F. Daw.

The family received friends Monday, April 1, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
