TYWANNA WILKERSON PEKARIK

MESA, Ariz.--Tywanna Wilkerson Pekarik, 64, died Monday.

The family will hold a private ceremony in North Carolina.

Born Sept. 1, 1948, in Goldsboro, she was the daughter of Charles Wilkerson and Thelma Latta Rudisill.

She was a gifted writer and artist and worked for American Greetings in Cleveland, Ohio. She later changed her career path and worked in various positions in the health care industry for 25 years. After retirement, she had the time to pursue her true passion for writing and was recently working on publishing a collection of her writings and also writing a novel. She was an avid supporter for the cause of ending childhood hunger everywhere. She was a generous soul with so much wisdom and strength and always thinking of the needs of others. She touched many lives and was loved by many. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and she was truly one of a kind.

She is survived by a son, Christopher Pekarik of Taipei, Taiwan; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Violi and Dr. Nick Stavridis of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Ashley Fenske of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Donnie Wilkerson of Goldsboro, and Terry Wilkerson (Barbara) of Wilmington; and a sister, Sherry Gwaltney (Andy) of Pinehurst; and a nephew, Derek Gwaltney of Savannah, Ga.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rixie Wilkerson, and her nephew, Bryan Wilkerson.
