RALPH J. JOYNER

CALYPSO -- Ralph J. Joyner, 86, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.
His life revolved around his family, his church, his friends and community and the farming life, all of which he loved so very much. These things would bring a smile to his face, along with a weekend meal at a favorite restaurant, holiday gatherings, family birthdays, gospel sings at various churches and let's not forget that occasional sense of humor that would surface every once in a while.
Of course, there was that fascination with cars, and then there was his gardening.
Ralph Joyner was born in Duplin County March 6, 1926, to the late Lonnie and Mertie Kelly Joyner.
He was a retired farmer, who continued to farm the land through his gardening.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, having fought in and around Germany.
He was a proud member of Calypso Baptist Church, and he truly appreciated the love and support through the years from his fellow members and pastors.
He is survived by a daughter, Janie J. Brooks and husband, Norman, of Bath; a son, Michael Joyner of Robersonville; a granddaughter, Taylor Stubbs of Bath; a brother, James Joyner and wife, Myrtle, of Calypso; a sister, Betty J. Hollingsworth and husband, Ralph, of Mount Olive; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tony W. Joyner; Doris W. Joyner, the mother of his children; two sisters, Inez J. Grady and Viola J. Barwick; and a brother, Roy Joyner.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Wayne Memorial Park, Goldsboro. Dr. Gregory A. Day will officiate.
Following the service, family and friends will be received at Calypso Baptist Church fellowship hall, including a memorial luncheon.
Janie and Michael extend a special thanks to all their family and friends, who loved and supported their father over the years. Also, a big thanks goes to the Calypso Baptist Church family for its enduring love and support.
