WALTER FRANK PATE

Walter Frank Pate, 89, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

At his request, there will be no formal service.

Mr. Pate was born in Wayne County on Oct. 20, 1923, to the late Charles and Lillian Pate. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and retired from the North Carolina National Guard after 35 years of service. Mr. Pate was a dedicated employee of Goldsboro Neon Sign for over 45 years. He will be remembered as an accomplished glass blower, which is a unique trade that was learned by him many years ago. Mr. Pate was a member of the Moose Lodge and for many years volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club.

Mr. Pate is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sara Frances Pate; his sons, James Michael "Mike" Pate and wife, Charlotte, of Goldsboro, Charles Patrick Pate and wife, Sandy, of Gastonia and Robert Bruce Pate and wife, Susan, of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; and sister, Lillian Melton of Goldsboro. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley Pate Zills and husband, Jimmy, Sara Elizabeth Pate, Jessica Michele Pate Smith and husband, Travis, Megan Carol Pate, Tyler Andrew Pate and Kyle Pate; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to the Alzheimer's North Carolina, Inc, P.O. Box 10608, Goldsboro, NC 27532.
