Mrs. Mary Sauls Best, 91, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Sister," 1005 Norman St., departed her earthly life Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Mary was born in Wayne County April 19, 1921, to the late Ed Sauls and Alice Jones Sauls.
She received her education in the public schools of Wayne County.
Mrs. Best was employed with and retired from Cherry Hospital after 38 years of service.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home chapel, 900 S. George St., with pastor Thelma Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery North, 1191 Old Grantham Road, Goldsboro.
Also, a public viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The family will be present at McIntyre Funeral Home from 4 to 5 p.m. to receive friends and other family members.
Mrs. Best was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Best; three sisters, Luvenia Sanders, Annie Ruth Exum and Lossie Applewhite; and six brothers, Lee Sauls and five other loving brothers.
Mrs. Best leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories three daughters, Bernice Applewhite and Alice Davis both of Goldsboro and Mollie A. Chavis of Creedmore; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Sauls and wife, Shirley, of Goldsboro; two sisters, Fannie M. Williams and Ossie B. Sloan both of Goldsboro; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; a special friend, Vertia Jones; and other relatives and friends.
The family will assemble Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at the residence of Ms. Bernice Applewhite, 807 N. Virginia S., Goldsboro, one hour prior to the funeral at 9:55 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
