Retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Lyman Charles Hunter, 62, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Lyman was born in Cayuga County, N.Y., Feb. 14, 1950, to the late Kenneth and Alice W. Hunter.

He retired from the United States Air Force after 26 years of dedicated service to his country.

Following his military career, he worked with Autozone.

Lyman always enjoyed the opportunity to bowl with his friends and watch Nascar Racing.

His courage during this fight with cancer was typical of his strength of character, reflecting his loyalty and dedication to and deep love for his family and his zest and love of life.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

Lyman is survived by his wife 39 years, Darlene Hunter; his son, Michael Hunter and wife, Carrie, of Seven Springs; his twin daughters, Michele Martinez and husband, Hector, of Kinston and Melissa Martinez and husband, Francisco, of Dayton, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Katelyn, Bayley, Kenneth, Ravyn, Jordyn, Dylan, Selena and Jaidyn.

He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Hunter of Rochester, N.Y., and sister Dawn DeHart of New Mexico.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cures for the Colors, SMOC, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
