LAGRANGE — Retired CW5 Ernie Chris Mewborn, 67, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012. Chris was born in Wayne County on Sept. 14, 1945, to Evelyn Mozingo Price of LaGrange and the late Ervin Chester Mewborn Jr. Chris was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Cox Mewborn; and his stepfather, Newby Price. Chris proudly served his country in the United States Army and had been a proud member of Delta Force. He began his military career in 1965 and retired in 2000 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 5. Chris had degrees in sociology and political science. He enjoyed golf, puzzles and was an avid reader.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. A service with full military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
In addition to his mother, Chris is survived by a sister, Carol McKeel of Goldsboro; brother, Carey Mewborn and wife, Jackie of LaGrange; nephews, Jr. Mewborn and Todd Mewborn of LaGrange; great nieces, Ashley Bratcher and husband, David of LaGrange, Kristin Mewborn of Middlesex,Caraleigh Mewborn of Goldsboro; and a great-great-nephew, Cohen Bratcher of LaGrange.
