TRENTON -- Margaret Carol Banks, 87, Trenton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012.

She was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Jones County.

She was the daughter of the late Clyde Jackson and Lena Elizabeth Mallard Banks.

She is survived by many cousins, including double first cousins, Agnes Faye Mallard Phillips (Horace), Annie Rose Mallard Raper (the late W. Burkette Raper) and the late Graham W. Mallard (Jean).

She was always grateful for the numerous relatives and friends who loved and cared for her for many years.

She was active in educational, community and civic activities.

She received her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from East Carolina University.

She enjoyed a long teaching career in Nash and Lenoir counties.

Her kindness touched many friends and relatives.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Friendship Free Will Baptist Church in Trenton (intersection of N.C. 41 and Ten Mile Fork Road), where she was a lifelong member. The Rev. Donald Fader and the Rev. Gary Bailey will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Clyde, Lena and Margaret Carol Banks Endowed Scholarship Fund, Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
